Jan 2011: Online Dating has many a pit fall
We recently had to assist in the unravelling of how a guy was arrested, spent 10 hours in police custody and was subsequently charged on suspicion of rape.
It all started just four weeks before on a popular dating website. He flirted, she flirted they met up in the real world and all seemed OK. They then met again but with a few drinks shared......they had sex and said their goodbyes.....three days later the police arrived at his place of work. He was cautioned, his boss’s laptop removed as evidence. He was stripped and examined and spent the whole night being interviewed before being released on bail to appear in court three weeks later.
Eventually the case was dismissed. This lifestyle car crash is just waiting to happen to anyone not prepared for the speed and danger that lurks behind online dating. Some might say it serves him right, it teaches us all a lesson and one we should communicate to teenagers of both sexes, friends and colleagues.
